When we bought our home here in the Cotswolds, England, I was somewhat dismayed when a friend called the stone floors “dreary”. Two days later I was in a saleroom in Cirencester and bidding for Persian carpets! At one point, I was so excited I was bidding against myself – the auctioneer was very sweet when he pointed this out but I did feel a bit silly. At the end of the auction, the porters loaded the boot of the car with four carpets – I could not believe my good fortune. Both of our children (now 28 and 34 years old) remember the carpet picnic we had when I got home and unloaded.
