Product Code: 610

This exquisite stitched box is worked on linen band in stranded cotton and includes alphabets and motifs taken from Catherine Archer's sampler. The design is worked in pure cross stitch and the box is made by hand. In addition to the box, there is a biscornu pincushion inside the box lid and a little scissor keep attached to the scissors.

Jane Greenoff said "I have collected samplers for many years and I became the proud owner of the Catherine Archer Sampler about twenty years ago. It was stitched while she was living at Ashley Down Orphanage, one of the Müller orphanages in Bristol, UK. Catherine's original sampler was worked on ecru non-evenweave linen in one strand of red thread. The design was worked over one thread of the fabric: equivalent to 45 stitches to the inch! This is even more amazing when you consider that Catherine had no electric light or magnifier. As was often the case with the alphabet samplers stitched by Müller children, Catherine's design includes dozens of complete alphabets, her classmates' initials, border motifs, keys and a Bible.

The kit is supplied gift boxed and includes the checked and plain pure linen band, red stranded cotton (floss), dark red lining, buttons, Cashel 28-count unbleached linen, hand dyed red pure wool felt, charts, illustrated making up instructions and a pair of scissors.

The little tools visible in the front pockets are not included in the pack but are available to buy. Go to Tools and Accessories
