Double cross stitch
Rice stitch is a cross stitch with an additional stitch worked over each ‘leg’ or corner of the cross. It can be worked in two stages: a row of normal cross stitches, followed by the additional stitches as a second row. This makes it ideal for working in two colours, which can create very pretty effects. When using two colours, work all large crosses first, followed by the additional stitches in the second colour.
Rice stitch is usually worked over four threads of an evenweave fabric, but it can be worked over four blocks of aida.
