Tied hemstitch
This simple hemstitch variation is created by first hemstitching two rows and withdrawing the intervening horizontal threads. The number of withdrawn threads will depend on the chart you are following. Then use the needle to tie groups of four threads together. Start with an away waste knot, bringing the needle up at the side of the row of vertical threads, midway between the two rows of hemstitch. Take the needle over four fabric threads, make a loop, take the needle round the back of the four threads, then up through the loop to make a knot. Keep the knotted line as straight as possible.
