Finishing/changing thread
There are two ways of making a neat finish. The first way is to pass the needle under stitches of the same or a similar colour at the back of the work, and snip off the loose end close to the stitching.
Or, to prevent any distortion of stitches on the front of the fabric (which can happen with the first method), finish the thread in the direction of the stitching. To do this, park the needle above the design. Thread a new needle with replacement thread and work a few stitches. Un-park the needle and finish the old thread under the new stitches.
