Queen stitch
This lovely ancient stitch is made of four parts, forming little dimples in the embroidery by pulling small holes in the fabric. This stitch looks fairly unexciting on its own but gorgeous when grouped. As it is a fairly labour-intensive stitch it is best used in small areas.
Follow the diagram and work the stitch over a square of four threads, in four stages. Work from left to right or vice versa, or, if preferred, work the two middle parts first followed by the outer ones.
(Also known as rococo stitch.)
