Long-legged cross stitch
Long-legged cross stitch gives a plaited-braid effect which is often used for borders and for joining edges to make a seam. It also looks impressive when worked in rows.
To work this stitch on evenweave, move four threads forwards and two threads upwards in a long diagonal ‘leg’, then work two threads downwards followed by two threads backwards diagonally to make the short leg. Long-legged cross stitch can also be worked on aida.
(Also known as long-armed Slav stitch, and Portuguese stitch.)
