Away waste knot start

Away waste knot start

The away waste knot is useful when you are using an odd number of strands, or when you are mixing threads in the needle (such as when ‘tweeding’ threads to achieve a mottled tweedy appearance). You would also use it if you were following the guidelines for perfect cross stitch and realigning the threads before starting to stitch.

Leave the knot on the front of the fabric, along the ‘route’ you are going to stitch. Work towards the knot, then cut it off when the threads are anchored. Avoid using this method with black thread, which may leave a shadow on the fabric.
