Stitching Holiday to Norway, 26 April - 2 May 2008

Dear Fellow Traveller,
As promised, here are the details for our planned trip to Norway in 2008. As expected, the costs are higher than on previous holidays but Norway is expensive, we are going further from home and we are half board whilst at our hotel. The costs shown below are our realistic estimate and obviously there may be some cabin surcharges when we know what cabins have been allocated by the ferry company (Those of you who came to Denmark will understand!)

The coach will leave Fairford at about 8.15 am on 26 April and travel to Newcastle via Birmingham and Leeds for a ferry at about 6.30pm.

Please note, there is no pick up in London this time.

We travel overnight arriving in Bergen at 11pm the following day so have a second night on the boat safely tied up in the harbour. We will be holding Hardanger classes in the main bar that evening! On the morning of 28th April, we are exploring Bergen and visiting Husfliden (shopping!) prior to a scenic drive to our hotel in Eidfjord.

We will arrive back in Newcastle at 8pm on 2 May and Malcolm will be fit, able and legal to drive us back to Fairford to arrive in the early hours of 3 May. I am looking at the possibility of a hotel in Leeds (very near the station) for those of you who might wish to stay that night and then travel onward the following morning. If you want to take advantage of the coach all the way to and from Fairford, I am planning to serve breakfast at Pinks Barn when we arrive and send you on your way when you are sorted, collected or safe to drive!

Cost per person in single room £920
(As always the single supplement is very harsh but we will, of course organise the sharing draw again if you would like to share but have no travel companion. Please just tick the box on the booking form if you are in this category)

The cost includes:

• Travel by new luxury coach from Fairford, Birmingham, and Leeds to Newcastle
• The ferry from Newcastle to Bergen in both directions (with cabins)
• Three nights bed, breakfast and evening meal at our hotel
• A trip to Husfliden in Bergen (This is a very important shop for Norwegian craft products and they are getting in Hardanger supplies especially for us!)
• A day at the Folkmuseum at Utne with guided tours of the costumes and embroideries and a conducted tour of the open air museum plus a Hardanger class at the Folkmuseum including all materials
• All internal fjord ferry crossings (there are four!)
• Further excursions etc to be arranged

Jane Greenoff's Linen Classes at Pinks Barn

My linen classes are intended for all skill levels and abilities, with the projects selected to develop existing skills and also perhaps to learn new ones. Classes include hemstitching and Hardanger and I always offer a choice of fabrics with your eyesight in mind. As with all our CSG events, my classes are not intended to be competitive and everyone has chance to work at their own speed. All classes are limited to ten people and are very informal. All you need to bring is the correct glasses and a sense of humour!

Prices are per person and include coffee, tea and biscuits, light lunch with wine, all materials and tuition. The fee is taken in full when you reserve a place.

We can supply a list of B&B venues if you would like to make a weekend

Together We Stitch Weekends

I know that many of our regular guests at our stitching weekends have been getting fairly desperate to know what is happening in 2008. I am so sorry that this has taken so long to arrange. There have been cataclysmic changes in the hotel groups that we have used in the past so the whole thing has taken longer to organise this time. We are still hoping to arrange a Christmas event so keep an eye on the web site.

Our weekends take place in four star hotels, so the accommodation is of a high standard, with added attractions such as swimming pools. Your level of skill doesn't matter - the weekends are designed to cater for all levels of ability and experience. Together We Stitch Weekends are crammed with stitching activities, including Make and Take sessions, workshops, demonstrations, discussions, problem-solving sessions, competitions, prizes and shopping.

27-29 June 2008:

Work the Strawberry Sampler and other strawberry inspired projects.

26-28 September 2008:
Special Sampler Weekend

The Sampler Weekend - This very popular weekend will include a short coach trip to Witney Antiques for an afternoon visit. Joy Jarrett has kindly agreed to allow is to look at her remarkable selection of samplers and other historic needlework. We will look at examples of traditional samplers and you have a chance to design your own sampler and/or stitch a selection of sampler inspired projects.

Christmas Stitching Extravaganza

Sadly this date will have to be cancelled- simply not possible to find a hotel. We are hoping to arrange a weekend 7th-9th November so watch this space.
