One of my first loves and still a great favourite with CSG Members. I have collected samplers for many years and still enjoy stitching them more than any other genre.
Samplers were worked by children as young as seven years of age who
showed such skill and attention that they put us to shame!
Many of these designs may be worked on aida - just choose the fabric from the drop down box.
If aida is not available this means that the design as charted will not work on aida material.
Designed and stitched by Jane Napier, this is one of a pair of lovely samplers inspired by the Mary Gollins sampler worked during the 18th century. The version in the picture was stitched on 32-count Belfast.
This delicate and colourful sampler was adapted from a series of Berlin charts.
Counted on to linen or aida fabric it is worked in pure cross stitch.
Possibly one of my favourite samplers. I remember the day I designed it as it was just a pleasure to complete. Sometimes things just work first time and this was one of those times.
Originally designed and stitched for my Cross Stitch Antique Style Samplers, published by David & Charles (See Books and Media), this lovely sampler is full of traditional motifs, alphabets, insects and flowers.
This traditional little design is stitched on non-evenweave linen in stranded cottons (floss).
This is an extract from Catherine Archer's sampler which can be seen in Charted Antique Samplers. This version is worked over one fabric thread only. Linen only.
This traditional birth sampler has been designed so that you can stitch the project whilst awaiting events! Worked in cross stitch and backstitch, this is an ideal project even if you are a novice.
Pure self indulgence - these pretty little motifs have been collected from old samplers over the past thirty years and I love them!
Worked in pure cross stitch it is a joy to stitch.
This traditional sampler is worked in counted cross stitch and backstitch and decorated with some seed pearls. It may be worked on aida fabric or linen with great effect.
One of my most popular designs, originally stitched for my Project Book, now out of print.
The design may be worked on linen or aida
